Winthrop has enjoyed a three-game homestand, but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Louisville Cardinals on Friday at 7:00 PM ET at KFC Yum! Center. The Eagles have pushed to make their last three games nail-biters, posting a 2-1 record during that series of close games.
Winthrop heads into the game having just recorded its biggest win since January 6 on Sunday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team edged past NC Central 77-75.
Meanwhile, after a disappointing 55 points in their last game, Louisville made sure to put some points on the board against Bellarmine on Tuesday. Louisville steamrolled past Bellarmine 100-68. The matchup was all but decided at halftime, when the score had already reached 48-27.
Louisville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Terrence Edwards Jr. leading the way who hit 10 for 14 on their way to 26 points. Edwards Jr.’s performance made up for a slower game against Tennessee two weeks ago. Another player who made a difference was Kasean Pryor, who had 21 points plus seven rebounds.
Winthrop’s win increased their record to 4-2. As for Louisville, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
There is likely to be some serious foul play as the two teams are among the highest scoring teams in the league. Winthrop has had no problem increasing scoring this season, averaging 84.8 points per game. However, it’s not like Louisville is struggling in that area, as the average is 82.7. With both teams able to rack up points so easily, the only question that remains is who can make the score higher.
Winthrop has to know they’re in an uphill battle considering the 17.5-point spread they’re up against. This match may not be the best time to bet against the spread as they have let down bettors the last three times they have played.
